Slow to learn yet quick to
assume. That is the nature of the being that is man - to be ignorant of what is
directly in front of him. The skill with which we all pull this off is beyond
my understanding - it is wildly bewildering!
Many times have we all been
culprits of such behavior, and personally, I'm anything but proud of it, but...
it does happen because we are human, and to be human is to be flawed. We're
quick to point fingers at others, we're quick to draw conclusions i call assumptions
and we're ever swift in meting out judgment when deep within we are just as
guilty. To control one's self in this regard takes a conscious effort because
this judgmental habit starts off from our youngest of ages and thus becomes
somewhat natural to the point where we don't even realise we're doing it.
Forming opinions about persons is not negative, but to assume things about them
and conclude is where the problem lies. We do not like being judged and so we
do not want to be, so... "Judge not,
that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and
with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." - Matthew 7:1, KJV
We say we love a person but then
we go and cheat on them or hurt them some way; physically, emotionally or
psychologically. We do it both to man and God; we Christians openly say we love
God but then we go and do things that make Him rather sad. We say a thing and
do the exact opposite of it!
James 5:12, KJV - "But
above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the
earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay;
lest ye fall into condemnation."
Yet, somehow, regardless of all
this knowledge, we get all defensive shifting blame and pointing fingers at
anyone but our own selves. We're never wrong, and when we are, there's a
conveniently "perfectly good
reason" for it. Our perception on life is such that others are always
the problem - our vision so tunneled that we cannot see anything else about us
but what lies before us. "All the
ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the
spirits." (Proverbs 16:2, KJV)
There is nothing sadder than a
person who does a thing (usually wrong)
and rather than showing remorseful repentance, points fingers at the mistakes
of others. It is pathetic! At least,
a person engaged in say... theft, knows that he or she is a thief, but the Holier-Than-Thou person is an
in-betweener; no firm footing here or there. Such a person may be doing a wrong
thing but would not admit to it, yet will be swift in pointing out another's
mistakes with an air of righteousness. Pathetic!
I leave you with this . . .
Luke 6:41-44, KJV:
"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but
perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the
mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in
thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye,
and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's
eye.
For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a
corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not
gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes."
